Welcome to Danhostel Gjerrild

WELCOME TO DANHOSTEL GJERRILD
Danhostel Gjerrild has a unique history as an old railway depot, i.e. the building was used as a combined workshop and storage space for locomotives, busses and trams. Gjerrild’s railway takes root all the way back in 1911, where it opened with three daily departures in each direction. It was closed in 1956 and the old depot was transformed into a hostel, which opened in the summer of 1973.

Danhostel Gjerrild offers child-friendly surroundings – outdoors as well as indoors – with numerous activities counting, among other things, a playground, table tennis, a cosy campfire site and, in the peak season, a large indoor playroom. With its 24 rooms and a charming old traincoach, with 16 additional beds arranged with 8 in each end of the coach, Danhostel Gjerrild is a wonderful base for an uforgettable holiday.

The hostel is located in the middle of the beautiful Gjerrild, on the northernmost tip of Djursland. We are close to Djurs Sommerland, Skandinavisk Dyrepark, Kattegatcentret, Ree Park and Fregatten Jylland.

Beach, water, sand… and limestone….

The Hostel lies just 3 km. away from the child-friendly beach at Gjerrild Nordstrand. Besides being close to this fantastic beach, the nothern tip of Djursland is a popular place for anglers, underwater hunters and kitesurfers alike. The coastline around Gjerrild is perfect for lovely walks. The limestone cliffs by Karlby, Hjembæk and Sangstrup extend to more than 3 km. They are up to 17 meters tall and offer a truly amazing nature experience. Here you will witness, up close, the raw force of the ocean, and if you are lucky you may even find a fossile or two. We look forward to welcome you!
